Strange Sycamore Leaf with Very Unusual Shape
Stock Number  FPCOL64
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Sycamore Leaf
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Douglas Pass, Colorado
Size:  Leaf is 4 inches long

This is a very strange-looking fossil leaf. It is a large Sycamore Leaf from the Eocene of Colorado. This leaf has all five lobes intact, the venation is very distinct, and a short petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The unusual feature is that all of the lobes are pointing upward - usually, the bottom lobes point more out to the side. The dark-colored fossil contrasts exquisitely with the light-colored matrix. The leaf is well displayed on the semi-squared plate of shale. This is a very fine example of this weird fossil Sycamore leaf from the Green River Formation of Colorado.
