Location: Braidwood, Illinois
Size: Concretion is 2.8 inches across
Here is a very large specimen of Annularia from the famous Mazon Creek area of Illinois. Annularia represent the leaf whorls found at the nodes of the extinct Calamites plant. This fossil plant is wonderfully preserved in a siderite concretion. Both halves of the concretion are present, so both part and counterpart of the fossil are intact. One HUGE whorl of long, linear leaves are beautifully displayed, which is quite unusual. The fossil plant has great color and contrast. This is a very collectible example of Annularia from this classic site.
