Name:
Zelkova and Lygodium Leaves
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Plate is 3.2 inches tall
This is an unusual multiple fossil leaf plate. There a fine Zelkova nervosa (Keaki Tree) leaf and a nice Lygodium kaulfussii (Climbing Fern) leaf on the slab. The lance-shaped Zelkova leaf is complete and exhibits wonderful detail. The serrated margins of the leaf are beautifully displayed, and the venation is just spectacular. The short petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The fossil leaves have great color and contrast and are well showcased on the semi-squared plate of shale. This is a very nice multiple example of Zelkova and Lygodium leaves from the Green River Formation of Utah.
