This is an excellent fossil leaf. It is a fine Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore Leaf) from the Eocene of Utah. Usually, this type of leaf has five distinct lobes. This specimen is quite uncommon in that it is complete and has only three lobes! The leaf exhibits excellent detail - the slightly-serrated margins of the leaf are clearly defined, and the venation of the leaf is easily seen. The long petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The fossil has outstanding, natural color and contrasts wonderfully with the khaki-colored matrix. The center loble of the leaf has been slightly bug-eaten, which is quite unusual. This is a very displayable specimen of a rare three-lobed Sycamore leaf from the Green River Formation.
