Name:
Ginkgo biloba Leaves
Age: Paleocene
Formation: Sentinnel Butte Formation
Location: Almont, North Dakota
Size: Larger leaf is 3.2 inches long
Here is a wonderful pair of fossil Ginkgo leaves. These are Ginkgo biloba from the Paleocene of North Dakota. These classic fossil leaves are quite large (one is over three inches long!) and preserve fine detail. The leaves have great form, and the palmate venation of the Ginkgo leaves is wonderfully displayed (difficult to see in photo). This fan-like leaves have beautiful off-white color, which contrasts beautifully with the orange-brown matrix. The leaves are well showcased on the large plate of matrix that also contains other leaves. This is a very uncommon double example of classic fossil Ginkgo leaves.
