Name:
Gymnocladus hesperia, Populus wilmattae
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Plate is about 7" X 12"
Here is a very unusual and uncommon plate of fossil leaves from the Eocene of Utah. There are two different leaves on this slab. On the top of the plate is a highly uncommon Gymnocladus hesperia leaf. This specimen is complete and displays exquisite detail. A wonderful specimen of Populus wilmattae (Poplar Leaf) is positioned below the Gymnocladus. Both leaves are quite distinct and still have their long petioles tightly attached. The fossils have excellent, natural color and are naturally positioned on the rectangular plate. This is an outstanding association plate of different leaves from the Green River Formation.
