Location: Saarland, Germany
Size: Plate is about 7 inches tall
This is a beautiful plant fossil. It is a Seed Fern Frond from the Pennsylvanian (Upper Carboniferous) of Germany. The fronds are attached to a main stem, which is extremely rare. The specimen has been meticulously prepared by hand so that the fossil plants are in high relief - they almost appear to be floating on top of the matrix. The central stem is easily seen, and the individual leaflets are beautifully displayed. The fossils have outstanding natural color and contrast and are well presented on the somewhat triangular plate of dense shale. This is a beautiful and very collectible specimen of a large, Neuropteris fossil fern fronds from the Coal Age of Europe.
