Name:
Poplar and Other Leaves
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Plate is 9.8 inches tall
This is an extremely distinct fossil plant. It is a fine leaf of Populus wilmattae, a Poplar, from the Green River Formation of Utah. This heart-shaped leaf has a tight, branching base - the venation of the leaf is quite distinct and easily seen with the naked eye. The LONG petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The leaf is distinctly bug-eaten, which is quite cool. There are also two other leaves on the plate. This is a very collectible specimen of Poplar and other leaves from the Eocene.
