EXTINCTIONS CHOICE - Diseased Sycamore Leaf
Stock Number  FPUPW67
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore Leaf)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Leaf is 3.5 inches tall

This is an excellent example of a rare fossil leaf. It is a beautiful Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore) leaf from the Green River Formation of Utah. This leaf is amazingly complete - all five lobes of the leaf are present and wonderfully displayed. The entire margins of the leaf are easily seen, and the venation is clearly defined. An extremely long, complete petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. But the most distinct part of this leaf is the loss of the flesh of the leaf, leaving just the venation, the results of disease on the right side of the leaf! This is a very rare occurence in the fossil record. This is a textbook specimen of a diseased Sycamore leaf from the Eocene.
