EXTINCTIONS CHOICE - Massive Poplar Leaf!
Stock Number  FPUPO29
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Populus wilmattae (Poplar Leaf)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Leaf is almost 9 inches long!

This is an extremely unusual fossil leaf. It is an extremely large leaf of Populus wilmattae, a Poplar, from the Green River Formation of Utah. This heart-shaped leaf has a tight, branching base and a very long acuminate apex. The venation of the leaf is quite nice and well displayed. The LONG petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. But the unusual feature of this leaf is that the tip is filly complete - it just goes on and on! The leaf has excellent natural color and contrasts well with the khaki-colored plate of matrix. This is a very rare specimen of a HUGE Poplar leaf from the Eocene.
