Rare Tropical Flower with All Five Petals Displayed

Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Flower is 0.7 inches across!

Due to their delicate nature, flowers are very rare in the fossil record. This is a large specimen of Astronium truncatum, a tropical flower, from the Eocene of Utah. This fossil flower exhibits wonderful detail - all five of the petals are well displayed. The fossil has great color and contrast and is well centered on the large, squared plate of shale. This is an excellent example of a rare and delicate fossil.
