EXTINCTIONS CHOICE - Bug-Eaten Sycamore Leaf
Stock Number  FPUPW65
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore Leaf)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Leaf is 4.1 inches long including petiole

Here is a very impressive fossil leaf. This is Macginitiea wyomingensis, a Sycamore, from the Green River Formation of Utah. All five lobes of the leaf are present, with the tip of one lobe showing distinct insect feeding damage! The serrrated margins are exhibited in wonderful fashion, the venation of the leaf is easily seen, and the petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The fossil is quite striking and well presented on the natural-edged plate of shale. This is a great example of a large Sycamore leaf from the Eocene.
