Rare, Colorful Lepidodendron Bark from Iowa
Stock Number  FPBARK903
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Lepidodendron veltheimi Bark
Age:  Pennsylvanian
Formation:  Cherokee Series
Location:  Oskaloosa, Iowa
Size:  Plate is 2.5 inches across

This is a beautiful specimen of Lepidodendron bark from the Pennsylvanian of Iowa. Lepidodendron trees were very important in the formation of coal in the mid-continent area. The diamond-shaped pattern of the bark is very distinct. Each ''diamond'' represents the point of attachment of a fallen leaf. This specimen is one of the more detailed examples of Lepidodendron bark that we have had. This is a nice example of this unusual bark from a Coal Age tree.
