Here is a fabulous fossil leaf. This is Macginitiea wyomingensis, a Sycamore, from the Green River Formation of Colorado. All five lobes of the leaf are easily seen, and the serrrated margins are exhibited in wonderful fashion. The venation of the leaf is quite distinct, and a petiole (stem) is still tightly attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The fossil is well showcased on the large, squared plate of shale, showcasing two lobes that have been distinctly bug-eaten. This is a top quality example of a large, bug-eaten Sycamore leaf from the Green River Formation.
