This is a classic plant fossil. It is a fossil Seed Fern Frond from the famous Mazon Creek locality of Illinois. This large specimen was acquired from an old collection and was found in the 1960's. This fern is preserved in a concretionary matrix, giving it excellent color and detail. The striking coloration is fully natural and the minute detail is exquisite. The fern is wonderfully showcased in the center of the dense, ironstone nodule. And both halves of the split pair concretion are present - an added bonus. This is a very collectible plant fossil from the classic Mazon Creek locale.
