Rare Oak Leaf from the Green River Formation
Stock Number  FPUXX301
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Quercus petros (Oak) Leaf
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Leaf is 1.6 inches long

This is a very rare fossil leaf. It is a Quercus petros, an Oak, from the Eocene of Utah. We have seen only a few specimens of this species from this site. This type of leaf is somewhat obovate in outline and has distinctly dentate margins. The primary venation is easily seen, and the tip is still intact. The leaf has gorgeous color and contrast and is nicely presented on the plate of shale that also contains a partial Sumac leaf. This is a fine example of this extremely scarce leaf from the Green River Formation.
