Name:
Acer lesquereuxi Leaf
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Leaf is 4.1" long including petiole
This is a beautiful specimen of Acer lesquereuxi, a true Maple. This leaf is from the Green River Formation of Utah. Maple leaves are very uncommon from this site. This specimen should not be confused with the more common Macginitiea, or Sycamore leaf. The lobes of the leaf are well displayed, and the venation is easily seen. An extremely long petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The fossil has great color and contrast and is wonderfully centered on the squared plate of shale. This is a very aesthetic example of an unusual Maple leaf from the Eocene.
