Name:
Allophylus flexifolia Branch
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Branch is 7.2 inches long
Here is a wonderful display plate of leaves from the Eocene of Utah. This is an extremely unusual occurrence of a long branch with SIX Allophylus flexifolia leaves still firmly attached. Branches with leaves attached are very uncommon from this stratigraphic unit. All of the leaves have very good detail and are extremely bug-eaten. The dark brown color of the fossil contrasts well with the khaki-colored matrix. The plant is wonderfully centered on the large plate of shale. This is a striking specimen of a rare "bug-chomped" branch from the Green River Formation.
