This is a very nice fossil leaf. It is a large Allophylus flexifolia leaf from the Eocene of Douglas Pass, Colorado. This leaf has an asymmetrical base and slightly serrated margins. The body of the leaf is easily seen, and the petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The leaf has very good, dark, natural color and is wonderfully showcased on the large plate of shale. This is a very displayable example of an Allophylus leaf from the Green River Formation of Colorado.
