Name:
Salix cockerelli, Zelkova nervosa
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Douglas Pass, Colorado
Size: Plate is 5.8 inches tall
This is a great double specimen of Salix cockerelli, a Willow Leaf, and Zelcova nervosa, a Keaki Tree leaf, from the Eocene of Colorado. This long, lanceolate Salix leaf exhibits very fine detail. The central venation is nicely displayed, and the short petiole (stem) is still tightly attached to the leaf. The Zelkova leaf is also very detailed. The fossils have excellent, natural color and contrast and are well showcased on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a very displayable example of two different leaves from the Green River Formation.
