Ginkgo biloba Leaves

Location: Almont, North Dakota
Size: Plate is 8.9 inches across!
Here is a fabulous plate of fossil Ginkgo leaves. These are Ginkgo biloba leaves from the Paleocene of North Dakota. There are at least three Ginkgo leaves on the plate, which is highly unusual. These classic fossil leaves are distinct and preserve fine detail. The leaves have great form, and the palmate venation of the Ginkgo leaves is wonderfully displayed (difficult to see in photo). These fan-like leaves have beautiful off-white color, which contrasts beautifully with the orange-brown matrix. The leaves are well showcased on the large plate of matrix that also contains other leaves. This is a very unusual example of a multiple Ginkgo leaf plate.
