RARE Erythrina roanensis Leaf with Nice Sumac
Stock Number  FPUMU19
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Erythrina roanensis, Sumac Leaf
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Plate is 10.1 inches tall!

Here is a very unusual leaf plate. This is a wonderful specimen of Erythrina roanensis and Sumac leaf from the Eocene of Utah. Very few specimens of this particular leaf have been found in the Green River Formation. This large leaf has extremely strong venation. The primary vein is very thick and the secondary veins are alternately arranged. The short, very stout petiole is complete and still attached to the leaf. This plant appears to have been chewed on by a bug, prior to fossilization, near the top of the leaf. There is also a nice Sumac leaf preserved on the plate. The fossils have extraordinary color and contrast and are well showcased on the large, squared plate of shale. This is a great example of this unusual leaf from the Green River Shale.
