Ginkgo biloba Leaves
Age: Paleocene
Formation: Sentinnel Butte Formation
Location: Almont, North Dakota
Size: Plate is 5.5 inches across
Here is a very nice double Ginkgo leaf plate. This is Ginkgo biloba from the Paleocene of North Dakota. These classic fossil leaves preserve very fine detail. The leaves have great form, and the palmate venation of the Ginkgo leaf is wonderfully displayed (difficult to see in photo). This fan-like leaves have beautiful golden-white color, which contrasts beautifully with the orange-brown matrix. The leaves are well showcased on the large plate of matrix that also contains other fossil plant remains on the back side. This is a great double example of classic fossil Ginkgo leaves.
