Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Douglas Pass, Colorado
Size:  Leaf is 5.3 inches long

Here is a classic fossil leaf from a classic locailty. This is Macginitiea wyomingensis, a Sycamore, from the Green River Formation of Colorado. The lobes of the leaf are easily seen, the venation of the leaf is quite distinct, and a long, complete petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The leaf also shows evidence of insect damage, which is quite unusual. This is a very fine bug-eaten example of an extinct Sycamore leaf from Colorado.
