Stock Number  FPUPO27
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Populus wilmattae (Poplar Leaf)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Douglas Pass, Colorado
Size:  Leaf is 5.4 inches long

This is a very attractive fossil plant. It is a fine leaf of Populus wilmattae, a Poplar, from the Green River Formation of Colorado. This heart-shaped leaf has a tight, branching base and a very long acuminate apex. The venation of the leaf is quite distinct and easily seen with the naked eye. The long petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The fossil has excellent natural color and contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored plate of matrix. This is a very displayable specimen of a Poplar leaf from Colorado.
