Fossil Seed Ferns
Age: Pennsylvanian
Formation: Llewellyn Formation
Location: Near St. Clair, Pennsylvania
Size: Plate is 12.5 inches long
This is a very large plate of fossil Seed Ferns from the classic St. Clair, Pennsylvania locality. The Seed Ferns are preserved as a thin film of white pyrophyllite on black shale. The plate has many fronds intact, and many are different sizes and shapes. The Seed Ferns exhibit wonderful detail - the individual leaflets of the fronds are clearly defined. The fossils have outstanding color and contrast and are well presented on the large, natural plate of shale with ferns also on the back side. This is a large, attractive plate of Coal Age fossils from Pennsylvania.
