Here is a fabulous slice of petrified wood. This is Araucaria sp. from the Triassic of Madagascar. Araucaria is closely related to the modern-day monkey-puzzle tree. This is a cross-section of a small trunk or limb of this fossil tree. The bark on the circumference of the slab is clearly defined. This distinct slab has been highly polished to reveal the fine detail and wonderful coloration of the fossil wood. And the colors of the silicified wood are just outstanding! The vibrant red coloration is highly unusual. The detail of the slice along with the striking, natural coloration make this a highly collectible specimen of petrified wood.
