Stock Number  FPUPW52
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore Leaf)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Leaf is 3.85 inches long

Here is a very nice fossil leaf. This is Macginitiea wyomingensis, a Sycamore, from the Green River Formation of Utah. All five lobes of the leaf are easily seen, and the serrrated margins are exhibited in wonderful fashion. The venation of the leaf is quite distinct, and a long petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The fossil is well presented on the semi-squared plate of shale that also has other leaves preserved. This is a detailed example of a Sycamore leaf from the Eocene.
