EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Fossil Cycad Frond
Age:  Cretaceous
Formation:  Lance Creek Formation
Location:  Niobrara County, Wyoming
Size:  Frond is 4.4 inches long

This is a very rare fossil cycad from an unusual location. It is a large fossil cycad frond from Wyoming. The unusual feature of this fossil is that it was found in the Cretaceous Lance Creek Formation - this type of plant could have been dinosaur food! The large frond has fine detail and great natural color preserved. The frond is aesthetically displayed on the large, natural plate of shale that also contains a wonderful leaf. This is a very nice specimen of a rare cycad frond from the Cretaceous of Wyoming.
