EXTINCTIONS CHOICE - Araucaria Cone in Matrix
Stock Number  FPCON46
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Araucaria mirabilis Cone
Age:  Jurassic
Formation:  Petrified Forest
Location:  Cerro Cuadrado, Patagonia, Argentina
Size:  Cone is 2.7 inches long

This is a very distinctive fossil cone. It is a large Araucaria mirabilis cone from the Jurassic of Patagonia. Araucaria was a tree closely related to the modern-day monkey-puzzle tree. This cone is nicely inflated and exhibits fine detail - the individual cone scales are clearly defined. The cone even retains part of the robust stem. The cone is wonderfully perched on the natural block of colorful matrix - the fossil displays beautifully. This is an excellent example of a complete Araucaria cone still embedded in rock.

NOTE: Argentina has now banned the export of all fossils. We will strictly abide by and enforce this law - we will not acquire new fossils from Argentina. However, this fossil was collected and exported prior to this law, and can be sold legally.
