EXTINCTIONS CHOICE - Top Quality Poplar Leaf
Stock Number  FPUPO25
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Populus wilmattae (Poplar Leaf)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Leaf is 5.5 inches long!

This is an extremely attractive fossil leaf. It is a complete leaf of Populus wilmattae, a poplar, from the Green River Formation of Utah. This heart-shaped leaf has a somewhat rounded base and a very long acuminate apex which is unusually intact to the tiny, tiny tip. The venation of the leaf is quite distinct and easily seen under magnification. The long petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The fossil has excellent natural color and contrast and is beautifully displayed on the semi-rectangular plate of shale. This is a top quality specimen of a large poplar leaf from the Eocene.
