Name:
Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore Leaf)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Leaf is 4.2 inches long
Here is a fabulous fossil leaf. This is Macginitiea wyomingensis, a Sycamore, from the Green River Formation of Colorado. All five lobes of the leaf are easily seen - one lobe tip has even been bug-eaten! The slightly serrrated margins are exhibited in wonderful fashion, the venation of the leaf is quite distinct, and a long petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The fossil is well showcased on the semi-squared plate of shale. This is a great example of a large Sycamore leaf from the Green River Formation.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
