Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Douglas Pass, Colorado
Size: Leaf is 4 inches tall including petiole
Here is a very nice fossil leaf. This is Macginitiea wyomingensis, a Sycamore, from the Green River Formation of Colorado. All five lobes of the leaf are easily seen, and the serrrated margins are exhibited in wonderful fashion. The venation of the leaf is quite distinct, and a short petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The fossil is well showcased on the natural plate of shale. This is a displayable example of a Sycamore leaf from Colorado.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
