Due to their delicate nature, flowers are very rare in the fossil record. This is a stunning specimen of Astronium truncatum, a tropical flower, from the Eocene of Utah. This fossil flower exhibits wonderful detail - the distinct petals are beautifully displayed. The fossil has great color and contrast and is well positioned on the natural plate of shale. This is an excellent example of a rare and delicate fossil.
