Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Douglas Pass, Colorado
Size: Leaf is 2.85 inches long
Here is a classic fossil leaf from a classic locailty. This is Macginitiea wyomingensis, a Sycamore, from the Green River Formation of Colorado. All five lobes of the leaf are easily seen, and the serrrated margins are exhibited in wonderful fashion. The venation of the leaf is quite distinct, and a long petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The fossil is well showcased on the semi-squared plate of shale. This is a very fine example of an extinct Sycamore leaf from Colorado.
