EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Metasequoia Frond
Age:  Paleocene
Formation:  Fort Union Formation
Location:  Glendive, Montana
Size:  Frond is 1.3 inches long

This is an unusual plant fossil. It is a wonderful Metasequoia Frond from a new find in the Paleocene of Montana. Metasequoia Fronds are much rarer in this formation than others - we have only ever seen this one. This distinct specimen is nicely intact - the leaflets are very clearly seen. The natural color makes for a striking display. The detailed frond is well showcased on the large, natural plate of shale. This is a very uncommon fossil Metasequoia Frond from an unusual location in Montana.
