This is an amazing plate of unusual plant fossils. There are TWO Fossil Flowers (Astronium truncatum?) on this slab of Green River Shale. Due to their delicate nature, flowers are very rare in the fossil record. This is a stunning double specimen that is probably Astronium truncatum, a tropical flower. These fossil flowers exhibit wonderful detail - all five of the petals are beautifully displayed on each one. The flowers have great color and contrast and are well positioned on the natural plate of shale. This is an incredibly rare pair of fossil flowers fossilized right next to each other.
