This is a colorful fossil leaf. It is a large Cercidiphyllum arcticum (Katsura Tree) leaf from the Paleocene of Montana. This specimen has great detail - the reticulation and venation are clearly seen. The natural red color makes for a striking display. The leaf has the petiole intact and is well showcased on the squared plate of shale. This is an unusual fossil leaf from an unusual location in Montana.
