Sycamore Fruits
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Plate is 3.2 inches tall
This is a wonderful example of a branch of fruiting bodies from Macgintea wyomingensis, a Sycamore tree. This rare multiple specimen is from the Eocene of Utah. These ''Sycamore Balls'' exhibit great detail - the spike-like seeds are easily seen. The stems of the fruiting bodies are still tightly attached, which is quite unusual. The dark colored fossils contrast nicely with the greyish-tan matrix. The balls are well showcased on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a collectible specimen of Sycamore fruiting bodies from the Green River Formation.
