This is a wonderful plant fossil. It is a large fossil Fern plate from Johnson County, Missouri. This specimen is from the same locality as the fern concretions - fossils on shale are very rare from this site. The striking dark brown coloration is fully natural, and the minute detail is exquisite. The ferns are beautifully showcased on the large, unbroken plate of shale. This is a very distinct plant fossil from this Mazon Creek-like locality.
