Name:
Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore Leaf)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Leaf is almost 4 inches tall
This is a very pretty specimen of Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore Leaf) from the Eocene of Utah. It is difficult to find Macginitiea leaves that are as complete as this specimen - most have missing lobes. This leaf is complete with all five lobes present. The venation on this specimen is preserved, the slightly serrated borders are easily seen, and a long petiole is still attached to the leaf. The fossil has nice natural color and good contrast. The leaf is well centered on a squared block of shale. This is a very fine example of a fossil Sycamore leaf.
