EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Populus wilmattae (Poplar Leaf)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Leaf is 5.25 inches long!

This is an extremely large fossil leaf. It is an attractive leaf of Populus wilmattae, a Poplar, from the Green River Formation of Utah. This heart-shaped leaf has a tight, branching base and a very long acuminate apex. The venation of the leaf is quite distinct and easily seen with the naked eye. The LONG petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The fossil has excellent natural color and contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored plate of matrix. This is a very large, displayable specimen of a Poplar leaf from the Eocene.
