Name:
Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore Leaf)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Douglas Pass, Colorado
Size: Leaf is 4.6 inches long
This is a very nice fossil leaf. It is a large Macginitiea wyomingensis, a Sycamore, from the Eocene of Colorado. This leaf has all five lobes intact, the venation is very distinct, and a long petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The outstanding coloration of the leaf is totally natural - no paint or coloring has been added. The dark-colored fossil contrasts exquisitely with the light-colored matrix. The leaf is well centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a fine example of a fossil Sycamore leaf from the Green River Formation of Colorado.
