Name:
Fossil Seed Fern (Pecopteris miltoni)
Age: Pennsylvanian
Formation: Carbondale Formation
Location: Braidwood, Illinois
Size: Concretion is almost 6 inches long
Here is a large fossil seed fern from the famous Mazon Creek area of Illinois. This specimen came from an old collection in Chicago. This Coal Age plant is wonderfully preserved in a siderite concretion - both halves of the concretion (part and counterpart) are present. This extremely large specimen (almost six inches long!) exhibits excellent detail. The individual leaflets are clearly defined - under magnification, the venation of the leaflets is easily seen. The beautiful color and contrast of the fossil is totally natural - no coloring or enhancement has been added to the specimen. This is a textbook Mazon Creek fern from an old collection - very sought-after by collectors.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
