This is an excellent fossil leaf. It is a fine Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore Leaf) from the Eocene of Colorado. This leaf has five distinct lobes. The leaf exhibits excellent detail - the slightly serrated margins of the leaf are clearly defined, and the venation of the leaf is easily seen. The petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The fossil has outstanding, natural color and contrasts wonderfully with the khaki-colored matrix. The leaf is beautifully centered on the natural plate of shale - the mottled color makes it look like it fell off of the tree yesterday! This is a very displayable specimen of a colorful Sycamore leaf from Colorado.
