Name:
Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore Leaf)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Leaf is 4.2 inches long
Here is a very nice fossil leaf. This is Macginitiea wyomingensis, a Sycamore, from the Green River Formation of Utah. All five lobes of the leaf are easily seen, and the serrrated margins are exhibited in wonderful fashion. The venation of the leaf is quite noticeable, and a long petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. Part of the body of the leaf has been eaten by insects, leaving a distinct honeycomb of veins intact - this is beautifully displayed under magnification. The fossil is well showcased on the squared plate of shale. This is a great example of a Sycamore leaf from the Eocene.
