Name:
Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore Leaf)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Leaf is 3.5 inches long including petiole
Here is a very nice fossil leaf. This is Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore leaf) from the Green River Formation of Utah. All five lobes of the leaf are easily seen, and the venation of the leaf is quite distinct. The long petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The dark brown color of the leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The fossil is well centered on the natural plate of shale. This is a great example of a Sycamore leaf from the Eocene.
