Name:
Hickory Branch
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Branch is almost 6 inches long
Here is a wonderful display plate of leaves from the Eocene of Utah. This is an extremely unusual occurrence of a long branch with FIVE Hickory leaves still firmly attached. Hickory leaves are very uncommon from this stratigraphic unit. All of the leaves have very good detail. The venation is clearly defined - under magnification, even the tertiary venation is easily seen. The dark brown color of the fossil contrasts well with the khaki-colored matrix. The plant is wonderfully centered on the large, natural plate of shale. This is a striking specimen of rare Hickory leaves from the Green River Formation.
