Distinct Annularia in Mazon Creek Concretion
Stock Number  FPFMC48

Name:   Asterophyllites equisetiformis
Age:  Pennsylvanian
Formation:  Carbondale Formation
Location:  Braidwood, Illinois
Size:  Concretion is almost 3 inches long

Here is a very nice specimen of Asterophyllites (Annularia) from the famous Mazon Creek area of Illinois. Annularia represent the leaf whorls found at the nodes of the extinct Calamites plant. This fossil plant is wonderfully preserved in a siderite concretion. Both halves of the concretion are present, so both part and counterpart of the fossil are intact. SIX whorls of long, linear leaves are beautifully displayed, which is quite unusual. The fossil plant has great color and contrast. This is a fine example of Annularia from this renowned site.
