Distinct Populus Leaf with Horsetail Rush
Stock Number  AA411062

Name:   Populus cinnamomoides, Equisetum winchesteri
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Leaf is 2.6" long, rush is 2.9" long

Here is an excellent plate from the Eocene of Colorado. It's a Populus cinnamomoides leaf and an Equisetum winchesteri rush. The elongated leaf is quite distinct and exhibits very fine detail. The venation of the leaf is beautifully defined, and the long petiole is complete and tightly attached to the leaf. The Equisetum (horsetail) rush is very well preserved and exhibits great detail. It is very easy to see that this specimen is directly related to the modern-day Equisetum. This horsetail shows good detail - the individual joints or nodes are nicely displayed. Both fossils have outstanding color and contrast and are nicely centered on the rectangular plate of matrix. This is a rare plate of foliage from the Green River Formation of Colorado.
